THE SCAR: SECRETS OF THE VERDANT ISLE
A FREE SUMMER THEATRE PROJECT FOR YOUNG PEOPLE AGED 11–19
The Scar: Secrets of the Verdant Isle is the first prototype production to emerge from Revolutions, People's Theatre Collective's new youth-led theatre programme.
Revolutions is a new way of making theatre. Instead of young people joining productions designed by adults, young people and professional artists work together as collaborators from the very beginning. Together they create original stories, performances and new approaches to theatre-making.
The Scar follows four friends living on an isolated island community governed by stories, rituals and fear of a mysterious place known as the Scar.When one of them is unexpectedly chosen as the island's new Leader and another citizen is exiled for asking a forbidden question, cracks begin to appear in the official version of history they've inherited. As they begin questioning the stories they've always been told, they uncover a much bigger truth about their society, its leaders and the world beyond the island.At its heart, the play is about friendship, belonging, power, truth and who gets to shape the stories a community tells about itself.
This summer, young people aged 11–18 will work alongside professional actors, directors and designers to create the first public version of the show, culminating in a performance at The Mill Arts Centre.The production is intentionally being created as a prototype: a chance to test ideas, explore new ways of working and continue developing the piece with young people at the centre of every creative decision.
PUPPETRY & MAKING WEEK
Monday 27th July - Friday 31st July 2026 10am - 4pm
The People's House, Castle Quay
Ages: 11-19
Before rehearsals begin, we're running a creative making week where young people will work alongside professional artists, designers and puppetry specialists to help create the visual world of the production.
Participants will explore design, prop-making and puppetry, helping bring the mysterious Umflings and other elements of the Verdant Isle to life.
This is a great opportunity for young people who are interested in creativity, making, design or visual storytelling, whether or not they wish to perform in the final production.
No previous theatre experience is required.

THE SCAR REHEARSAL & PERFORMANCE
Monday 3rd August - Friday 14th August 2026
The People's House, Castle Quay
Ages 11 - 19
Young people aged 11–18 can also join the performance company and work alongside professional actors, directors and theatre-makers to rehearse and perform The Scar. Over two weeks you'll explore acting, movement, storytelling, devising, puppetry and world-building before presenting the first public performance of the show at The Mill Arts Centre.
